The indigenous/traditional system of healing is an age-old knowledge possessed through time-testing experience by our ancestors in rendering healthcare services to the community. Since 2013-14, the Centre had been engaging with the Traditional healers (LHPs) from across the State through various platforms- State, District, Block & village level workshops and seminars. The objective of the engagement is to interact with the LHPs in order to access the critical gaps along the value chain. During the initial years, the Centre is trying to inventories the lists of LHPs as a Directory in which about 1800 nos. of LHPs have been included in the list.
Since 2016, with the support of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India under Article 275(1), the Centre is able to support the LHPs in conducting Block level awareness-cum-health camps across the State as opportunities to showcase their practices. As an outcome of these Block level awareness-cum-health camps, about 567 selected LHPs have been trained on basic hygienic procedures, processing, documentation, etc. These trained LHPs were then supported with basic amenities such as grinder, drying trays, signboard, etc and some amount for maintenance of herbal garden.
