In Meghalaya, the traditional healing practice rendered by the traditional healers utilize a vast array of medicinal plants, herbs, minerals, etc. and it has been the mainstay of health care delivery or serves as a complement to the formal systems for both the rural and the urban population.Since this healing practice isstill unorganized and unrecognized, the herbal formulations and products have been able to reach only to the local markets. In view of the significance of these traditional practices, which is our cultural heritage, the Centre is striving towards strengthening and popularizingthis knowledge so as to envision the State of Meghalaya in the limelight of the National Map of Health Tourism where tourists will visit the State not only for its scenic beauty but to seek relaxation of body, mind and soul.
Some of the major thrust areas of interventions include inventorization, documentation, capacity building, product development and value addition, infrastructural support to the Healers, etc.
